And Fake Buck
Or, it is nice to have a choice, at least.
Hive dot blog for dApps
Recently I've stopped using some corporate owned 'social' media services. Just like I quit watching TV and listening to the Radio years ago. Most of the software I use is Free and Open Sourced, just like the Operating Systems running on my computer network. Blockchain technology, Federation networking and decentralization have had a blast thanks to the Open Source community. Many people are probably even unaware that the internet would not even function as it does without it. Nor their mobile phone could do what it does without the Free and Open Source developments. Without it Hive dot blog would probably not be what it is today.
Some Hive community members maybe are unaware that their platform is running on a decentralized blockchain. The good thing about it is that they do not even have too. Now the thing with them keys might still be a kind of struggle getting people onboard. At least that is what I get as a feedback. And even the current keywallets do not always return me back to what I want to have unlocked. In short, it is not perfect yet, but then again what is? What I like about platforms like Hive dot blog are the innovations. Because much of the improvements that have been done are behind the scenes. And as much as I would love to see Hive Smart Contracts {HSC} come into existence or Hive Smart Tokens {HST}, or whatever it is going to be, it will take some more time.
Many improvements that are being done are on an invisible level for most of the Hive community members. But it will help the user experience to be great for years to come while the amount of data keeps growing. No one would be wanting to wait for hours to finally see ones publication appear, or even seeing it appear at all. Let alone have many Decentralized Applications {dApps} getting build on top of it without bringing the system to a halt. Some possible sidechain developments will need to trust the mainchain staying strong and moving forward without the risk of losing crucial data. For most of the members this will a be not of their interest though. It is probably too technical anyway. But at the end of the day it is just that you can trust that Hive dot blog works as it is expected to do.
A new dApp in town
Maybe you heard the buzz already, but there is a new dApp in town. Well, at least for me there was until a couple of days ago. While I did finally quit Twatter, after I left Fake Buck a month ago, I was looking for something that would be fun to use for blogging and micro-blogging. It had been a while since the last time I looked at the latest dApps added to the Hive network. And to my pleasant surprise there was actually a dApp for micro-blogging, known as dBuzz. Going to the D dot buzz website I was in for a treat. It really looks awesome on mobile and computer screen. And after finding where my private key was I was able to have a go at it. Set the theme to grey, really looking very slick, kudos to that too and off I went. And it uses IPFS for decentralized file storage, AWESOME!
Today there are going to be some new things added to D dot buzz. Curious what it will be, I will surely keep an eye on the website during the day. There is a friendly welcome to everybody joining in, which I do appreciate. And you know, all it takes is your Hive member name and your posting key. For which a browser extension like WhaleVault works perfectly. And I use this in Opera with VPN turned on. And I just noticed that it is now possible to switch between accounts just like in Ecency and dApplr. It is also possible to use a Buzz button on a website. But the most fun part is just micro-blogging the day. (Only upvoting possible by the way.) All in all, I do like this Twatter replacement. Buzz is the word.
The title thing
When storing data on the Hive blockchain like the blog original does the need for a title comes in. It is a must. But with micro-blogging it has not need, or does it? When I posted on D dot Buzz and look at Hive dot blog I will see my Buzz getting repeated for the most part. Except that at some part the title will get truncated, for being too long. Now, I thought about how the title might be used for other purposes, while still being readable for other User Interfaces. It could be as simple as using something like: DBUZZ: aFQ13owjkTFS8FHw24587278SFkWmfjs - 20210126090516. Yes, I know, looks like gibberish, but it would be a code and a time, showing it is part of the D dot Buzz network. While the micro-blogging post still is the same. And at the D dot Buzz website it would not show. But that is just a suggestion.
In a way though this could be used by other dApps that can do without the title part. This could work for dMeme too, if there is even something like that. It might function in a crude way like files are recognized. And some User Interfaces might use it to only show its specific content, but that might be considered a downside also. Though hiding content on a blockchain like Hive dot blog is not really a thing, because it can be found anyway. Using the awesome Beem and the Python programming language I did store some data on the Hive blockchain myself. Without it being visible on any dApp, except when using the Hive blockchain explorer. Now I figure that it might be possible to use the Hive blockchain for an encrypted private message system. And a dApp like dBuzz could maybe implement this or Hive itself.
The future is decentralized and voluntary
Some recent events on a global scale have proven to me how important it is that Free and Open Sourced data is as important as software. And to some point a lot of hardware will get to that level. Humanity being able to live as free as once born rules out any central controlled system being in charge of what that is. If some system claims it is allowed to 'give' us so called 'rights' and also seems to able to take those away, as it sees fit, then humanity is in trouble. Evil will always pretend it is 'the good side'. But, for our own best interest it just has to take away the so called 'rights' it gave to us at some point in space-time. And we should not worry, it will only be for the time being, because of well you know 'reasons'. Only for a fortnight. Extended for a month, well a couple, at the most. Maybe for ten years, no more, really would 'it' lie to you?
"NOW DO AS YOU ARE BEING TOLD AND YOU WILL NOT GET PUNISHED AS A REWARD!", when that is starting to make sense to you, then get out off those centralized company controlled systems and join the Hive community. Because even if you want to hand me a tin-foil hat right now, you can express that freely. And I am free to respond, or even ignore. But, most importantly, you and I can freely express ourselves and might be able to find some common grounds we do agree on. Platforms like Hive are important to me, just like Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies and Tokens. Not one, no, everybody one for themselves, or more. Not one decentralized platform claiming to be the best, but a many-verse of blockchains finding ways to form a federation of the free born and living.
You know, in the sense of earning 'big time' with my publications is way behind me. And even though I do like being able to live substantively on my Cryptocurrency earnings, being active on Hive dot blog is mainly about Freedom Of Expression locked in a blockchain. That is part of the greater good. New dApps like dBuzz and others keep it exciting. What will be added next? Hardly cannot wait what comes next. To me it is like being a child again unpacking a present. And it does not even matter that much what is inside. Next up private messaging on the Hive blockchain?
Anyway, Freedom Of Expression, that's Hive for me and you!
Have a great one!
The Hive community is Buzzing!
