Got my first batch in the first round.

Using the Ethereum MetaMask wallet and the EOS dot IO distribution webpage.

And I still do dislike using Ethereum.

Late last night I finally managed to get it done. First used the MetaMask plugin for Chromium, the Linux version of the Chrome browser. That one disappeared from screen every time I change form one browser tab to another. Had to stay patient with this one. Also I really really do dislike that fuel thing in Ether. Yet to get to those EOS Tokens, I had to start using Ethereum again. It is a small price to pay to get my share of the loot. First needed to fill the MetaMask wallet with some Ether. Getting some Steem Backed Dollar for that, sending it through Changelly and done...

After that sending it to the so called EOS Token smart contract address, should be easy as pie. And there is went, well almost all went to the address. Do not remember why not, but I think it was a gas problem. Oh well, it always is, isn't it? And yes there it was on the Ethereum blockexplorer, pending. There was a lot of Ether going in that first round, by the hundreds, well, not mine though. But maybe I will do some more in another round, it does go on for about a year. Every day another round. The first one was for 200 million EOS and then every next day 2 million for almost a year. Do not know if I bought my EOS Tokens expensive but I heard it was selling at Kraken for 2.50 already. And I bought for less than a dollar. But I am hodling, eurm holding on to mine. Because I want to use them on the EOS blockchain, once that is going live!

After the first round, the claiming...

Well, that proved to be a bit harder than I thought. If that happens to you too, stay calm, you have almost a year to do the claim. The thing was that the part of the site where I should claim my EOS Tokens was having its challenges. Even with the webaddress that was suggested to be used in the MetaMask Ethereum wallet. Had I already mentioned that I really really dislike Ethereum and its fuel thing? Oh, good... Now I do not know if it is my Linux Chromium browser having trouble with the MetaMask wallet, or that it is just a bit buggy. Or it is Ethereum and its crappy gas system, but it was kind of hellish to get it all done, after the first round was closed. Lets leave it at that I cursed Ethereum for all of eternity and beyond. And I wondered if there really had not been another way to do this EOS team...!?

Well, it must have been me then, right? So, even if I had to pull an all nighter, I would get my EOS Tokens. Server troubles, switching back and forth, refresh the page, open MetaMask, refresh the page... And somehow it was two o' clock at night here in Oldambt. At some point I wanted to throw an empty beer bottle at the screen. Next I had the LCD screen in my hands, ready to smash it to smithereens against the wall. Oh happy day. Well, so far so good. Changes some browser security settings, maybe that would help. What was running inside the distribution page that slowed my computer down so much by the way. Seems it was not running WASM yet. But then all of a sudden, presto, there it was, and the choir began to sing: "Halleluja!"

Made it in, yes!

Needed to generate the EOS public key, had my private key from my Ethereum address already copied, that was needed too. Now I had gotten an EOS public key and an EOS private key. That last one I needed to copy-paste. And most important, if you get this far: safe all those keys, write them down, print them. You will need them when EOS goes live. So, that I did, ah, done, right? No...!? Ah, had to claim the EOS Tokens now. Wow, that was great, just had to push the right button and then of to bed! There you go, clicked it. WUT...???

The MetaMask showed me a pop-up screen and I needed to send some ... Yes, you did guess it right? Yep, they wanted some gas again. Worth almost 5 Euro... And my wallet was almost empty, of course. Oh Ehtereum how you suck badly and do that so well. Really Block dot One, you could not find something more complex to do this ITO {Initial Token Offer}? Okay enough of the sarcasm, I am sorry for that, but it took about two years of my life, I guess. Okay, sending more SBD to Changelly, converting it to Ether. And that had to be a minimum, which turned out to be even better. Because now the costs had doubled for claiming the EOS Tokens. More than nine euro! And I did not have enough in my wallet...

So I decided to lower the gas amount just as long as I did have enough Ether in my MetaMask wallet to get this transaction over with! Might take longer to get added to a block, but so be it, I already had gotten this far. And the night was still young, not even three o' clock.

And finally it went through! Had to wait for the confirmations, then checked the distribution page again, after a few refreshes and changing servers in the MetaMask wallet. And there it was, yes I had managed to claim my first EOS Tokens ever! Oh the joy the laughter, tears for happines, I had made it! Now, if this works just as with the Peerplays ICO {Initial Coin Offer} then getting the Tokens on the live EOS blockchain will be a piece of cake. Somehow I do hope the way it went pearshaped for me for several times has to do with it being on Linux. Cause I would not hope others would have to experience this. Somehow it seems MetaMask has trouble working well in Chromium it seems.

Still dislike Ethereum though.

The strange thing was that although the MetaMask wallet made it appear that I had to pay a lot for the transaction, more than 9 euro, it actually cost me about 50 cents, I think. And as the price of Ehtereum is going up again there is 9.35 euro worth of Ethe in my wallet. So, my guess is that the MetaMask Ethereum wallet plugin for the Ethereum browser is having a bit of trouble with the Chromium browser running on Linux.

Still I made it in the end and I now have my first batch of EOS Tokens, hurray! Now the wait begins for the EOS blockchain to go live!

Have a great one!
